Mwanzo Bora Nutrition Project

IOP implemented Mwanzo Bora (Good beginning) Nutrition Program (MBNP) in Kilolo District from 2015 to 2018. It was funded by Africare.

The main objectives of the project was to reduce maternal problem to pregnant women by 20% out of 53% and lactating mother by 20% out of 32%, and reducing stunting for the children under two years by 20% out of 51% current situation within three years of implementation through Nutrition Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) approach. The main target group beneficiaries of the project are women of the reproductive age from 15-47 years, pregnant women and lactating mother as well as the children under one thousand days.

The project is implemented in all 24 wards; 109 villages in Kilolo District. MBNP is implemented in collaboration with local government authority ie Ward Executive Officers, Village Executive Officers and Village Chairperson, also is working with District Nutrition Officer, District Development officer, Extension officers, Health workers and Community Health Workers who are at grass root areas. 

Why 1000 days concept?

1,000 days are calculated from the first day when woman conceives to two years of child age. It’s a unique window of opportunity to build a child’s health life and the future’s prosperity.
